The parenting formula

Dear daughters

I wish that parenting was like maths, there were set formulas to get exact answers. Everything is clear cut, right or wrong. But it’s not, it’s like doing an English assignment. There are a million different ways to write the assignment and all have strengths and flaws in them. It can also be interpreted differently by every person.

There is no one single right way to parent your child/ren. There are many different options and none of them are 100% perfect or right. No matter what you choose, the decision is going to have positives and negatives. It makes parenting one big guessing game with your gut instinct as your only guide. It is a challenge every single day but it is also the greatest thing you will ever experience.

Being a parent is exhilarating and exhausting, stressful and confusing, rewarding and addictive, it’s full of love and laughing and crying and pain. Nothing compares to it. Nothing is anywhere near as amazing. It is messy and imperfect and I wish for you to experience it too.

My only piece of advice to get your though is to follow your gut always. You know what’s best for you and your child/ren.

Love always, mum xx
