Dear daughters,
I spent my childhood, teens and 20s concerned about how people saw me and their opinion of me. In the past 5 years though I have learned a lesson that has lead me to let go of my obsession with everyone liking me.
That lesson is that no matter how hard you try, no matter who you are, there will always be someone who does not like you. And this dislike ultimately has nothing to do with you but everything to do with them. Each person you encounter comes to the experience seeing it through lenses that are tinted by their opinions and past experiences and they will see you through these filters. Nothing you do can alter their lenses.
Everyone you encounter is also battling something that you will know nothing about so be kind to others no matter the way they act.
I always try to remember that another’s opinion of me ultimately has no way of hurting me if I continue to be the person I want to be.
Please, beautiful daughters, be your genuine self always. You are the only person who can be uniquely you.
I love you always
X
